Espresso Machine Review

The benefits of using a Pasquini espresso machine are clearly evident. This compact model provides push button controls and dual heating elements. This lets you brew and pour the espresso while doing something else. Another time saving benefit is that the Livia 90 is brilliant at brewing and steaming at the same time, thanks to the dual heating elements. This is a great convenience and most often what happens in commercial use. Using both of these features simultaneously makes coffee production quick and reliable. Connecting to commercial quality machines is a hallmark of the Pasquini espresso machine.

Often required for professional use is a NSF Sanitation Certification. This is something that this home espresso machine already carries so you are guaranteed top quality components giving you great coffee and long life performance.

In a cappuccino espresso maker it is known that the stronger the pump, the better the espresso. The Pasquini Livia 90’s powerful 15 BAR pump provides steady, uninterrupted pressure to produce a full flavor extraction and thick espresso crema. Crema is the aromatic and taste elements of the thick red-brown topping that a good espresso shot will have.

Many consider Pasquini to be the ultimate maker of espresso equipment in the world. That's a lofty declaration to live up to, but Pasquini holds to this reputation with its attention to detail. The housing construction is second to none as the company knows what it takes to produce a top quality commercial machine. Inside is a Solenoid 3-way valve.

These valves, only available on high end machines, relieve pressure in the portafilter immediately after brewing so you can pull consecutive shot after shot. Solenoid valves espresso machines are always built to a higher standard. The fact that the valve is there tells you that this manufacturer knows about real espresso machine requirements.

Pasquini HML90S Features & Benefits

Control Panel Features:
It’s not the prettiest looking machine at the dance but then again this Italian espresso machine is built for performance not just good looks. The control panel appears less modern than others but the rocker switches, indicator lights and handles give you precise control over your coffee and the brewing process.

Although the pressure gauge is a bit awkward to view, underneath and in the work area itself, it does give an extremely accurate reading. You’ll know exactly how your machine is performing.

Pasquini knows that not all of us are expert baristas so the control panel is made with the home user in mind. Simply turn the machine on and the powerful 1,200 Watt heating element quickly gets the water and steam to the optimal temperatures. When the gauge is in the green you know to flip the brew button’s commercial grade rocker switch. Voila! The best espresso begins pouring.

Espresso Brewing Features:
The ideal espresso and wonderful lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos no longer need to be legends. With your Pasquini espresso machine, you can have them right where you are every single day – at home. Brewing on the Livia 90 is straightforward as this cappuccino espresso machine does most of the work for you.

Not all the steps are automated but there are many circuits and safety features to help produce a consistently excellent cup of coffee.

The 3-way solenoid valve is one such feature. This outlet is hooked into the brew switch’s rocker arm so when the unit is turned off the valve opens and automatically releases the water off the coffee grounds in the portafilter.

This gives you instant control and no dripping from the group head as the excess water is directed into the removable drip pan. With a drier coffee in the portafilter it is also easier to knock the “puck” out.

You’ll have to fill the portafilter and lock it into place and steam/froth your milk but outside of this the Pasquini Livia doesn’t force you to do much else. With smart features to protect the machine and the coffee’s quality you’ll be very happy and totally satisfied with spending the extra money to get the perfect brew.

Steam Wand / Frother Features:
With an anti suction valve built into the Steam Wand another quality protecting benefit is evident on the Pasquini Livia. The anti valve prevents milk from being sucked into the Steam Wand. This assures you of no hidden bacteria and one of the main reasons this Italian espresso machine earns its NSF Sanitation Certification.

The stainless steel Steam Wand has two different frothing tips. The first is a commercial style Rosetta four hole steaming tip. The four holes give you finer bubbles as they are produced with less air. This attachment tip may take more skill to handle but is very durable. The second is a Teflon turbo frothing tip, which has a slightly wider head. The wider head means a little less control over the bubbles’ fineness but a faster frothing.

Boiler Features:
The Pasquini attention to quality and details is highlighted by the automatic Electronic Boiler Refill Control circuit. This monitors the water level in the copper boiler and robotically senses when to pull more water from the Water Reservoir. Some minerals must be present in the water and this is why distilled water won’t work for this model.

The copper boiler is huge – 1.5 liters - and therefore you should be prepared to allow the machine a minimum of 10 minutes to fully heat up before use. You’ll know the machine is ready for use when the orange light next to the On/Off button is not showing. This indicator light turns off to tell you that the boiler has heated the water to the right point.

Portafilter Features:
Like many of the finer things in life size, style and materials help differentiate what is better than others. With its 58mm diameter basket the portafilter is the same size as those used on commercial espresso machines. The style of this wider opening exposes more of the coffee puck to water and creates a richer Crema and fuller flavor.

Think of all the lessons from Alton Brown on the Food Network. He teaches the more surface area that comes in contact the greater the flavor that can be extracted. The materials used in the filter, resilient plastic for the handle protects your hand from the heat, and chrome-plated brass connections on the holder itself, give you stability during the whole brewing process. Brass, like the copper in the boiler, is an excellent structure to transfer heat.

So you see once again what the extra money is paying for – the Italian designed and knowledgeable elements that really help make the perfect espresso.

Water System / Reservoir Features:
The 3.2 liter Water Reservoir can be filled from the top and is located on the back of the machine. Its water level is monitored by the Electronic Boiler Refill Control. When the green indicator light turns off this tells you that it is time to top up the tank.
