Espresso Machine Review

Super automatic espresso machines are designed to do it all for you – grind, tamp, and brew. From beginning to end this machine does all the work mechanically and uses its many robotic sensors to create a very consistent brew cup after cup after cup. With the Talea Touch programming the machine is a breeze. After all you have the largest display screen that is available on the market. The communicating panel is touch-sensitive and easily lets you find and control the many different features of this home cappuccino maker. Within minutes you can have the machine set to your individual preferences including water hardness, activating pre-infusion and the length and temperature of your brew settings.

From your research you’re already familiar with the many standard Saeco espresso machine components and elements, so there is little need for us to go into details about the: 1,250 Watt stainless steel Dual Heating element, Pannarello Steam Wand and Removable brew group. Like the other Saeco Talea models you have both the Saeco Brewing System® (SBS) & Rapid Steam® technology, plus the Opti-Dose mechanism which lets you choose between 7 – 10.5 grams of coffee to be used to make the best espresso.

With the built-in ceramic disc grinder, an advantage over metal grinder as the material’s surface allows less coffee oil and residue to accumulate than metal, a 57oz (1.75 liters) removable Water Reservoir and separate button to dispense hot water you get all the necessary extras that underscore Saeco’s quality and forethought. The best example of this is the included FREE Milk Island, an attachment that automatically froths and steams your milk in a separate glass decanter. As the Saeco Talea family is the only line to include this modern luxury you can see why the Talea Touch Plus is our best selling “expresso” machine.

Saeco S-TT-ST Features & Benefits

Control Panel Features:
The touch screen control panel is the biggest benefit that this Saeco machine has over the competition. With the largest Display panel on the market the Talea Touch gives you the clearest communicating screen. Saeco’s mission statement of simplicity is totally evident with the ease of operating and directing this cappucino machine.

When you view the touch screen, you see four images: a steam whistle, a small cup (for espresso), a larger cup (for coffee), and a tall cup (for a long coffee). Press the drink you want. With the intelligent design all you need to do to make 2 drinks is tap the icon twice. How simple and clear in its exchange is this home cappuccino machine? The strength of your brew is represented by the darkness of the cup icon. You can program and save these settings to choose between a mild, medium, or strong cup.

Do you prefer reading text on a large screen instead of working with images? Just under the cups on the touch sensitive screen are “show text,” date and time, and “go to menu” symbols. Press “show text” to view the screen in its text-only layout. When you press the date and time, you’ll enter the clock menu. Enter the many options available in the programming menu by tapping “go to menu.” You will not find a more simple and efficient way to operate your machine than this large communicating display panel.

Espresso Brewing Features:
Grinding your own beans has many advantages, and the built-in 8oz Bean Hopper and Ceramic Disc Grinder give you. Ground beans decay and lose their flavor after 3 days so the Saeco Talea Touch Plus mills only as much as you need for the freshest cup of coffee. The Opti-Dose system lets you program the exact amount of beans you wish to use for your coffee brewing, between 7 – 10 grams. The beans are stored in an airtight protective hopper, which shields them from damaging moisture.

Yet the beauty of owning a Saeco cappuccino machine is that you are not limited to always using the beans from the hopper. With its unique Bypass Doser you may pour in any kind of ground coffee (such as decaf or a favorite blend) and use that instead. The simple procedure has you hold the icon corresponding to the type of beverage you wish to brew (espresso, coffee, or long coffee). On the touch screen Menu tap the “coffee settings” and select “pre-ground coffee.” The machine will now brew using the grounds that you’ve loaded into the Bypass Doser.

Saeco’s attention to detail and commitment to manufacturing machines that brew the best espresso implies that they totally understand the process of brewing. With the Super Automatic Talea Touch you don’t have to know what pre-infusion is as the machine mechanically does this for you. Pre-infusion is the process of dampening the freshly ground coffee for a few short moments. This often missed step brings out more of the beans’ flavors and depth extracting a great espresso. The Saeco Talea Touch Plus comes with the pre-infusion (or pre-brewing) preset at normal. Yet you can either turn off and deactivate the pre-brewing step or adjust the settings to “strong” which soaks the grounds for a little longer.

For an immediate difference in the strength of your coffee, Saeco designed an SBS knob. This Saeco Brewing System® can be instantly located on the coffee-dispensing spout. Turn the knob to the right to make a stronger coffee, and to the left for a milder brew. What this is actually doing is changing the water pressure on the grounds – but you are not losing any of the pressure from the 15 BAR pump that is standard on every Saeco machine. With the touch of button, or more accurately the tap of an image, on the largest panel the home espresso machine market offers you have mastered the art of brewing espresso at home.

Steam Wand / Frother Features:
The beauty of this Saeco cappuccino machine is that you have two frothing options – the included Milk Island and the patented Rapid Steam® system. Rapid Steam® technology does away with the wait between frothing and brewing espresso. The Talea Ring Plus’s Rapid Steam® and SBS® have separate heat exchangers for the independent steam and brew cycles. This benefit allows this Saeco machine to provide fast and continuous steam pressure for frothing milk within seconds after brewing.

The Pannarello Steam Wand itself is a real treat to use. Convenient and strong you will be able to craft exquisite foam for your milk based drinks (cappuccino, latte, macchiato). Constructed from durable stainless steel, and on a rotating joint, the wand maneuvers with no trouble to best froth and steam your milk.

In addition to the manual Pannarello Steam Wand, the Saeco Talea Touch Plus comes with an automatic frothing tool called a Milk Island. The Milk Island is a unique Saeco development for all Talea models. This clever attachment is included for FREE with your purchase so you can make luscious cappuccinos and lattes with no effort.

Connected to the Talea Touch by a special steam connection the glass decanter stands off from the Talea espresso machine base. Using the Milk Island is painless. Fill it with fresh, cold milk between the marked “Min.” and “Max.” lines and place on the base. Check that the green light on the base becomes illuminated, and then turn the Steam lever to the Milk Island icon. The Talea automatically steams into the Milk Island for 2 minutes, yet you can stop the steam at any time by turning the steam wand knob to its Off position. You’ll have professional quality frothed milk and can use the carafe with its easy pour spout to create outstanding drinks with ease.

Boiler Features:
The boiler on all models of the Saeco Odea and Talea lines is the same 1,250 Watt dual heating element. We apologize that there is not much different as you read about the different models in these families but there is nothing else we can add about the boiler than what is written below.

1,250 Watts power this very mighty stainless steel boiler. With its professional capabilities the Saeco Talea Touch gives you a boiler with a fast recycling time so you can make multiple cups without long breaks between batches. And with 1,250 Watts the boiler is as strong as some John Deere portable generators. Less than 4 minutes is the average wait time we saw when timing this compact espresso machine from its initially being turned on.

The dual heating elements for the separate brewing and steaming cycles means that the water for each of these is getting to the correct temperatures independently. To maximize performance Saeco has two individual thermostats to monitor these cycles. This is a wonderful safety feature that assures you of the right temperature for these very separate processes and protects the machine from overheating. In fact, there is a third safety valve to shield the boiler from too much pressure. Combined these security elements extend the life of your Saeco machine.

Filter Features:
Being a Saeco super automatic espresso machine means that the Talea Touch doesn’t use a conventional portafilter. Instead, this Saeco machine, with a 15 BAR pressure pump, utilizes an automatic brew unit and dual dispensing spout that connects to the other brewing components. The brew unit, united with the additional Opti-Dose feature and a built-in ceramic grinder, is how your coffee is prepared. This eliminates the need for tamping your own coffee grinds into a conventional portafilter.

The Talea Touch begins everything it does by using the beans in its 8oz. hopper. However, there is the occasional visitor who may wish a different blend or even decaf. This important guest won’t miss out of appreciating the beauty of this super automatic cappuccino machine. Just access the Bypass Doser by lifting the small lid on the machine and use the special pre-ground funnel. After making a cup of coffee with this option, the machine automatically resets back to using the beans held in the hopper. This Bypass Doser is a feature that is not available on the Talea Giro.

Water System / Reservoir Features:
The standard size for Water Reservoirs on Saeco super automatic espresso machines is 57oz (1.75 liters). This is more than enough capacity to save you from having to constantly return to the faucet for refills.

More Time Saving Features

Water Quantity Features:
Strong 1,250 Watt dual heating elements and the large capacity of the 57oz (1.75 liters) Water Reservoir synchronizes well to save you time. You are assured of a fast recycling time and plenty of water to brew multiple batches with no interruptions.

Programmable Timer Features:
Yes, a programmable timer is available on the Saeco Talea Touch Plus cappuccino machine. With the largest display panel on the market you get ultra simplicity to program the time you wish for your machine to turn on and be ready for brewing.

Active Cup Warmer Features:
Yes, this Saeco machine has an Active Cup Warmer feature. You can set the cup warmer to your preferences with the programmable menu. Simply press “go to menu” on the touch screen, then select “machine settings,” and then “cup warming surface.”

Hot Water Dispenser Features:
Yes, the Steam Wand can dispense hot water. Use the steam icon, and select “hot water dispensing.” Turn the steam knob to the hot water position and the water is dispensed.

ESE Pods or Ground Coffee:
No ESE certified pods can be used with this machine. In fact, all of the Saeco Super Automatic espresso machines (Odea, Talea and Primea) require you to use ground coffee. This is why each of the models comes with a built-in ceramic disc grinder and Bypass Doser. Ceramic grinders are better than metal as the ceramic doesn’t get as clogged with the residue and oil that builds up from the beans.

Removable Drip Tray Features:
Yes, the drip tray is removable (and adjustable in height) on the Saeco Talea Touch Plus Super Automatic cappucino maker.
